Friday, May 22nd, 2009behind the scenes
Monday, April 20th, 2009We were doing the clinic series last week in Winter Haven Florida. Steve Bates parents live in Winter Haven as well so lucky for me I never have to drive more than five minutes during that week. The problem is two riders live an hour away from Winter Haven and are not stoked about having to make the drive every morning. But hey 80 percent of the team lives in the Winter Haven area now so whats the point of making us all leave. Heres Andrew, Stu, and Zane talking about something unimportant. Andrews happy. He’s a newlywed.
here we come
Friday, March 27th, 2009Our annual CWB team week is about to start. The whole team comes to town and we do things other teams do. Things like putting five people on one surfboard and dragging it behind the boat, building a rail that teammates are the actual posts underneath it, and generally just trying to be super core wakeboarders. Which we may or may not be. Oh and we brainstorm, figure out, and shoot the team poster for the year.
any given tuesday
Monday, March 16th, 2009This is a picture my friendly Justin Doornbos posted on facebook. The picture was taken from his dock and the sketch a-frame was in front of my house. That’s me getting dirty like its 2002 on it. Those were the good days back then. No responsibility except being the best rider I could be. And all the time in the world to do it. Normally those days it was just Justin, his cousin Zach and me. We always started out the glassy days with a super fast tubing session behind the Sea Doo giving each other gnarly whips all around the lake on the glassyness. Then after that it was normally three or four set each day. It was so much easier back then. With only three of us. Nowadays at any given time there can be five to eight riders looking to shred.
true true
Monday, March 9th, 2009Andrew got it right. It was a good day. 87 and not a cloud in the sky. The only problem was the sun shining off of the glassy rollers coming into the double up and making it nearly impossible to see. Although glassy water is never a problem. And we only had two fat side sacs in the boat. But what kind of people would we be if we let this bother us. We had just as much fun on the small wake today and we would’ve had on a behemoth one. Rad day for sure.
What does hurt the most?
Wednesday, February 18th, 2009This is what hurts the most. This does.
making the most
Wednesday, February 11th, 2009One thing in my trials as a career wakeboarder is that bigger is better. Wakes that is. Of course the bigger the wake the more fun right. I think so. Sometimes you are without a big wake though. And when that happens it comes to the attention that instead of being bummer or angry you should make the most of the situation. Occasionally I ride small wakes and although you can’t do all your crazy maneuvers on it you can still have fun and goof off. A small wake is the best thing to learn your basic. Learn some in to out three’s. Learn how to land blind switch and regular better. Goof off. Flip off rollers. Wakeboarding should always be fun. Even if your not on the perfect setup. Just push the boundaries whenever you can. Sorry for trying to get so introspective. Here’s one of my favorite shot’s of me ever. It’s just me goofing off but you can get the sense of it. Fun doesn’t have to be going huge remember. Spin to win hahaha. Shot by Spencer Smith! www.derekgrasman.wordpress.com
sorry its been to long
Tuesday, February 10th, 2009Wow its been what seems like forever. The truth of the matter is I forgot my password and it took me this long to get back into the account. Its boat show season right now and I spent all last week in Knoxville for CWB slinging boards. And next week I am actually getting the chance to ride a train to Miami for a rail jam with some of my close friends. It’s going to be rad. I love rail jams. There rad. And Mastercraft is unveiling there new yacht they came up with. It’s going to be rad. Im pretty excited. Hope to see you guys there. Keep checking this blog updates and check derekgrasman.wordpress.com too. Later brodos.
CWB Week is Over
Wednesday, December 17th, 2008This whole past week has been all about CWB for the whole team pretty much. Doug Cannon our product designer got down here last Thursday to work on the new Faction board. And I must say it is one of the most fun shapes I have ever ridden. It’s super rider friendly and just fun to ride. Almost more so than any other wakeboard I have ever ridden.
Then on Friday our team manager Steve Bates got down here to do some clinic dvd filming for our 2009 product dvd. Here at CWB we tend to do things a little different. Every other board company tries to make it all serious and cool. And we feel that takes the fun out of it. Which is what were all about. The FUN. If you guys get a chance to check out the product dvd you should because it’s going to be a good watch. Not your average boring clinic dvd. Lot’s of funny and goofy stuff going on that we came up with. A couple riders couldn’t make it but the riders who could were Bryan Hutton, Corey Bradley. Stuart Shinn, Andrew Adkison, Zane Schwenk, Trevor Hansen, Jimmy Trask, and myself. A good time was had for all and I think we would all agree we pushed the boundaries of what was capable on a wakeboard. And not in the average way either.
Coldest Winter
Thursday, October 30th, 2008Not the new Kanye song. So don’t get your hopes up. I am talking about what looks like it may be a cold winter. We had a cold front here in Florida these past couple days and it has been chilly. This is probably the earliest I have ever had to bust out the old fullsuit. This may have been since I just got an awesome new fullsuit from Jetpilot. It blue and I love it. So comfortable and flexible. The past two days have been mid 60’s and it’s hard to get excited to go ride. Although as soon as I get my boots on I am psyched again. Even though it’s cold it’s really fun. I hope it doesn’t get to cold though. It already hurts the hands to hold onto the handle. I guess living in Florida has made me a softy. Keep it real everyone. Not too real though. Im outty.

Off Season
Thursday, September 25th, 2008It’s finally here guys. After a good summer that may or may not have gone by to quick it is finally the end of the season. Unlike snowboarding and other sports wakeboarding never really has a true off season. Thats because in Florida you can ride all year and because wakeboarding is awesome. This is the time of the year that I am pretty sure is every pro riders favorite. Some riders favorite may be spring but this is mine. It is my favorite for many reasons. The first is that we get a break from flying every week and the second is that we get to come home and do what we love the most. Wakeboard and lots of it. The water is still warm and the sun is still shining. And it’s always glassy. This is the time of the year that I always see the most progression in my riding. So let’s hope it stays the same this year. And besides when I used to live in Michigan this would be when I had to put my board away for the year. So screw that. I want more wakeboarding not less.
Knoxvegas
Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008Hey guys. Just got back from TN. It was sick. We got to shred glassy water everyday of the week then go to one of the biggest rail jams I have ever been to. We are talking hundreds of thousands of people all around. Then close the night out with one of the best firework sessions in the world. Pretty sick. Its called Boomsday and I guess they do it every year. Its pretty sick to see thousands of people in one place stoked on wakeboarding. Now we all have something in common. And we partied and had a good time with beautiful women!
Rail Jam
Thursday, August 21st, 2008Whoa two blog posts in one night. Thats a feat in itself. My purpose for the second post is to let you guys know about my plans that I just learned about. Mastercraft boats just got ahold of me letting me know there doing a rail jam in Knoxville on the 31st. Word is it’s going to be massive like 300,000 thousand people. I haven’t done a rail jam in a long time. So I am pretty excited. I leave this coming Monday only a week after I get home from a month gone. It’s sick though I get to go ride at my roommate Jeff House’s parents house and ride with him all week. Maybe we will have our own week of progression. Super sick. Wish me luck in the rail jam. Thanks dudes. Talk to you soon.

Home
Thursday, August 21st, 2008 Dudes I can’t believe it. I am finally home. Super stoked to be able to ride alot and in the warm weather where everything including the falls are better. The only problem is the day after I got home hurricane Fay came to visit. So for the past 4 days its been like 40 mph winds and rain. Kindof sucky. Its kindof good to get a little break. I had been on the road for a month straight.
The last week was really sweet. It started out with U.S. Nationals where I got put in the same heat with two of my super good friends. One being my roommate Jeff House and the other being Zane’s roommate Jimmy Trask. It was probably the funnest heat I rode in all year. Just riding back to back with your bros is awesome I guess. Then after Nationals Jimmy and I flew to New Hampshire where we did an Alliance Mag trip (check it at Alliancewake.com) with Ben Greenwood, Keith Lyman, Garret Cortese, and CWB’s own Will Chriestensen. We got to go to everyones lake that they grew up on and even checked out some colonial town called Old Sturbridge Village. I love history so that was super sweet. We even got a chance to see the Mayflower. It was smaller than I thought it was going to be. Along with seeing all that everytime I looked into the lush woods I would see and old colonial rock fence that someone had built hundreds of year ago which I thought was super sweet. Overall probably one of the best trips I have been on I just hope we got some dope shots that will do it justice in the mag. Anyways rock on guys. Worlds is coming up soon so I hope this wind will die down eventually. Its almost time for what I call progression week. Its a week after all the tournaments are done and Corey, Trevor and Me where we all stay at eachothers house and just ride as hard as possible about 4 times a day for a week and strictly try new tricks. Im ecxcited for that week. Talk to you guys soon. One love bros and broettes.
