Injury Update
Wednesday, October 14th, 2009About a month ago i had the pleasure to go to TSR and shred cable for acouple days. TSR is on my top 5 places to ride in the world, behind boat or cable! I’m totally stoked on everything about that place, so was super excited about going out there. On my second day of riding I was having one of the best times on a board i’d had in a long time. I finally stomped a switch S-Bend to blind, straight into a regular S-Bend to blind, so was feeling pretty good. Then, on my next pass, i popped alittle low on an air front to fakie, and hyperflexed my knee. Long story short, a week later i was under the knife getting a piece of pinched off cartilage in my knee scoped out. I was on crutches for about a week after, and now have been walking for about a week. Although my injury was minimal compared to many, the time off the water has definitely made me realize one thing…. life sucks without wakeboarding! Seriously i think about it all day everyday, like a girlfriend that just dumped me that i can’t get over. I think i have one more week of recovery then its back on the water!! Luckily, the location of the pinched cartilage is in the back of my knee so it’s the only thing that can happen to my knee with no long term damage. During my time off my roommates created a dirtbike track around our house, so i’ve been able to hit it on the john deere. Check out the pic, pretty fun. Anyways, i’m counting down the days till i’m back on the water!!!
Don’t Let the “Hidden Layover” get you!
Thursday, May 7th, 2009Today was supposed to be fun; planed on riding in the morning, and traveling to Sacramento Ca in the afternoon to CIE’s Spring Ride. I came into the day with an awesome double up set in my backyard with my roommates at 9 Am in 80-degree weather, so things started alright. I then proceeded to get to Orlando Intl airport, and check in. My flight was booked through expedia, and upon reaching the ticket counter I discovered I had a layover in Milwaukee. Not exactly on the way to Ca from Fl, but I didn’t let it get me down. The lady at the ticket counter told me to get my ticket from Milwaukee to Ca once I got to my layover. Kinda odd, but I went along with it. Once in Milwaukee, in order to get my second ticket, I had to exit the airport, get my bag from baggage claim, re-check in, and pay AGAIN for my bag! I was a little pissed, but wasn’t the end of the world. But then I discovered I had a “hidden layover”!! What’s a hidden layover you ask? Its like the small print at the bottom of a free coupon that says nothing is actually free, or like the cute little puppy that gives you flies. It basically is a layover that the airlines hide and claim is a direct flight. It goes something like this; lets say you have a flight from Milwaukee to Sacramento, the hidden layover could be the plane stopping in Phoenix for 2 hours before continuing on to Sac. But wait, if it stops, shouldn’t that be a layover? Nope, you have to switch planes to make in an official layover. So, here I am, grumpy about paying for my bag again, and then getting stabbed in the back with my hidden layover in Az. If anything comes out of this 12-hour flight, it’s that I can share my experience of the “hidden layover” with all of you. Don’t let it happen to you!
